MCB Condemns Israeli War Crimes in Lebanon

18 Jul 2006

The Muslim Council of Britain condemns in the strongest terms possible Israel’s indiscriminate killing and criminal destruction of Lebanon’s civilian infrastructure. There is absolutely no doubt that Israel’s actions constitute war crimes. We call on our government and other contracting parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention to condemn these outrageous breaches of international humanitarian law.

‘Had these mass killings and the accompanying savage destruction of towns been carried out by a Muslim government, we do not think our government would have remained silent. We are appalled by the pathetic statements from the Security Council and the G8 leaders. By failing to condemn the Israeli actions under the pretext of ‘self-defence’ they have ipso facto given the Zionist fanatics more time to carry out their rape of Lebanon,’ said Dr Muhammad Abdul Bari, Secretary-General of the Muslim Council of Britain.

The MCB believes that Israel’s slaughter of civilians in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and Lebanon will not break the resolve of their respective peoples. This sterile policy has been tried for decades by successive Israeli governments and has only produced highly motivated resistance movements. Many more will be recruited into their ranks across the region and beyond due to Israel’s criminal behaviour.

‘The only way out of this crisis is through an immediate cessation of hostilities and a negotiated international settlement that secures the release of prisoners and detainees from all sides,’ added Dr Bari.
