The Muslim Council of Britain (MCB) wish to extend to the Muslim Community its greetings and prayers for a very happy and fulfilling Ramadan and prays to Allah SWT to bless us with all the baraka (blessings) of this most noble month in the Islamic calendar. .

“We should also constantly remember in our prayers the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Palestine, Kashmir, Chechnya and many other places who are suffering from aggression, occupation and brutal suppression,” said MCB Secretary General Mr Yousuf Bhailok.

“The MCB appeals to the Imams, Ulama, Scientists and Moon Sighting Committees throughout the country to take a unified stand for the commencement as well as the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan. There is no doubt that given the special climatic circumstances of this country it is only rarely possible to sight the moon which is the normal requirement of the Sharia.”

“There are at the moment couple of different approaches with regard to the best possible way to meet the requirements of the Sharia in so far as the actual or assumed sighting of the moon is concerned. However, the MCB believes that given the spirit of understanding and the need for unity our religious leadership can sit together and find an agreed answer to the problem.”

The statement concludes by urging “We should also take the opportunity to share with our neighbours the blessings and baraka (blessings) of this Holy Month of Ramadan.”
